Background

United Nations International School (UNIS) was founded in 1947 by a group of United Nations employees that wanted a global and culturally diverse education for their children. Today, the school has a student body of 1,600 made up of 110 different nationalities. Many are children of UN employees but everyone is welcome – about half of UNIS students come from non-UN families.

UNIS has two campuses in New York City. The Manhattan campus caters to students from Pre-K to Grade 12 and is home to the vast majority of UNIS students. There is an additional campus in Queens for Kindergarten to Grade 8 students.
